Most samples arriving for sample processing will need to be either washed and / or wet sieved. Washing samples involves adding a special mixture of soap that will clean the sample of a variety of non-sample particulate that should be removed prior to further processing.

CF Mineral Research has developed it’s own proprietary wet sieve procedure based on our owner’s preferred sieving methods. Quality control is of utmost importance therefore each sieve is thoroughly cleaned so that the sieve is 100% clear or all particles.

Wet sieved samples have 3 fractions; +6 OS (oversize), -6 + 16 fraction and the -16 fraction unless otherwise requested from our clients.

As most exploration clients know, sample preparation and processing are dependent on what elements and/or mineralogical grains are of interest for the client such as gold, silver or diamond. The type of samples the client has collected is also important. When looking for gold grains in a sample to determine concentration, location and morphology, the sample must be processed through wet sieve and separated into specific heavy mineral sieve size ranges.

CF Mineral Research has developed its own proprietary wet sieve procedure based on our owner’s preferred sieving methods. Quality control is of utmost importance therefore each sieve is thoroughly cleaned to ensure the sieve is 100% clear or all particles.

Most samples arriving for sample processing will need to be either washed and / or wet sieved. Washing samples involves adding a special mixture of soap that will clean the sample of a variety of organic particulate that should be removed prior to further processing. Removing any organic material or minutely small dust from samples will prevent any equipment clogging such as the separatory funnels during the heavy liquid grain separation. For samples that have been pre-screened in the field such as till or talus types, samples will be processed directly through wet sieve into the 3 main sieve sizes and dried overnight and put through dry sieve next.

In general, most wet sieved samples have 3 fractions; +6 OS (oversize), -6 + 16 fraction and the -16 fraction after processing. We are also able to process other sieve sizes depending on what our clients need. Should this be the case, please contact us so that we can discuss any sample or process requirements.
